Products and services:  We process and sell pecans for fund raisers for organizations and have a retail store where people can purchase various products made with pecans.

Why did you decide to start this type of business?

The business was started in 1924 by David and Bill’s father. He was killed in an auto accident when the boys were young, and their mother kept the business going.  In 1967, David and Bill began running it. So I guess you could say it’s always been in the family.

What accomplishments are you most proud of as the owner of this business?

We have won many awards over the years but the most recent are we were named Business of the Year by the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce in 2005 and received the School and Business award from Calhoun Public Schools in 2012.

What sets you apart from other businesses that people might support?

The fact that it’s a family business and the product is fresh and good quality.  We get the pecans from all over South Carolina and Georgia. We don’t advertise a lot because we invest in maintaining the quality of our product. That’s most important thing to us. A lot of our business is word of mouth.

Do you have any other info you want to share?

We put out a catalog that people can request, and it can also be found on at https://www.goldenkernel.com and on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

What are your hours?

The retail store is open year round. and the hours can be found by going to those sites.  Our phone number is 1-800-845-2448.
